The EGYC provides a wide variety of information and support services to Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Transgendered, Queer and Questioning youth as well as provides information, data and a professional network to help current youth-focused organizations become more efficient and self-sufficient.
Target Audience
EGYC services are for all youth through age 22.
Providing Youth Information
Youth have few reliable sources of information when dealing with issues such as sexuality. The Electronic Gay Youth Center provides unbiased information on a wide variety of topics and encourages youth to comment and provide supplemental information to their peers.
Peer Support
The EGYC provides youth with a small group of peers to utilize as a close group of personal support that is assigned a peer support leader to act as a stimulus and moderator for the group.
Additionally, the youth have access to the entire EGYC community for information and support.
Access to Professional and Alternate Support
Organizations, based on their missions, are able to act as a resource for the youth through the EGYC web site.
This can include like-minded organizations ranging from crisis hot lines to organizations with a very specific focus and mission. These organizations can be accessed with the same level of privacy and security as the rest of the services provided through the EGYC program.
Youth Safety & Security
Online Youth Services takes the safety and security of youth extremely seriously.
All peer conversations occur in monitored public or semi-public areas, with no private conversations between youth being allowed.
The only private conversations are those with professional third-party organizations enrolled in the EGYC program.
This allows Online Youth Services to monitor and flag conversations where youth might be giving out personally identifiable information and take action where appropriate.
